At the Münich airport I was informed that I would not be able to get my boarding passes for my flights to Singapore and Adelaide until I got to Frankfurt.  They did charge me for extra luggage, which was 8 kilos over.  Was that the 6 bottles of Grüner Veltliner ice wine I’m taking as gifts or was it the five pairs of shoes, electronic gadgets and photo equipment?  I must learn to pack lighter!

Did you know that you need a visa for Australia? I didn’t. For a minute there, I thought I wasn’t going to be able to fly. Luckily I was able to puchase one at the Frankfurt airport. So that was 240 Euros for the extra baggage and then another 45 Euros for an Australian tourist’s visa.

I couldn’t sleep on the flight to Singapore, but Qantas offers a huge selection of movies and TV programmes on the flight.  I watched “Australia” which is a great film with some good landscape shots, a bit of Australian cultural background and history, and a very sentimental love story.  I wonder if all the Australian men look like Hugh Jackman? The film certainly got me even more in the mood for Australia than I already am.

This being my first time in the southern hemisphere, I am really curious to see if I can observe the Coriolis effect in drains throughout the Singapore airport. A silly occupation while waiting for my next flight…
