I’ve spent the last two days teaching aspiring sommeliers about marketing at the Deutsche Wein & Sommelier Schule in Munich. It’s a little over an hour’s commute each way, so the days were long and intense. It’s an intelligent and attentive group of students again and the second time that I have lectured for the DWS. It seems to be a good institution.

My refridgerator was empty after not really being home for 5 days. I bought a liter box of fresh figs at the local Turkish market for the sensational price of € 1.65. Figs cost up to €1,25 per piece (!) at the supermaket and are not nearly as ripe, sweet, and tasty as the ones from the Turkish grocer’s. I’ll drizzle them with a balsamico glaze over a green salad and eat a fresh baquette and Camembert with them tonight. My 12-year old daughter Sophie won’t like that though. It’s green salad and boiled potatoes for her.
