The Ultimate Austrian Wine Experience is coming to St. Paul, Minnesota on August 12th, 2009

You’ve heard of the Alps and Mozart and you may know the film “The Sound of Music”, but did you know that Austria is also wine country and that Vienna is the world’s only capital city with significant wine production?

Austrian wine has achieved a cult following among wine connoisseurs world-wide. In fact, all of the top gourmet restaurants from Paris to New York to Tokyo boast Austrian wines on their wine lists. This is significant acknowledgment for a country responsible for only 1% of the world’s wine production.

Words like “Grüner Veltliner” and “Neusiedlersee-Hügelland” don’t exactly trip gracefully from the English speaker’s tongue, but wine connoisseurs who have tired of faceless Chardonnays and Cabernets that could come from anywhere in the world are crazy about Austria’s grape varieties and regions.

In a 2 hour presentation, participants will learn just why the wine world is raving about the wines of Austria. You will discover a refreshing array of aromas, flavors and unique grape varieties not found elsewhere in the world – wines with a sense of place that, above all else, are food friendly.

Julia Sevenich, a leading wine writer and wine critic from Austria will lead this commentated tasting and seminar. Participants will receive a copy of the “Ultimate Austrian Wine Guide”, a comprehensive guide to the country’s wine regions, vintners, and their current wines with retail value of 27 dollars.

When: August 12th, 2009 at 6 PM
Where: Lexington Riverside Condominiums
1077 Sibley Memorial Highway
Lilydale, Minnesota

    Hello Julia,
I am really looking forward to the Austrian wine presentation.
Currently, I'm taking a Sommelier class, working at a small wine shop and apprenticing at a local winery/vineyard here in MN.
But this Harvest, I'll in Vienna, apprenticing at Weingut Wieninger; that connection was made through my good friend who works at Wine-Partners in Wien.
Anyhow, I hope to have a chance to speak with you in-person.

    Hi Matt!
Fantastic that you can come! We will even be tasting some stunning wine from Fritz Wieninger at this event. That is so exciting that you will be working in Vienna for the harvest – what a magnificent opportunity! We certainly will have a chance to chat at the class. I look forward to meeting you!

I had such a great time tonight, thank you so much for inviting me! It was just a real treat, and I feel so much smarter. I can't believe I got to be 54 years old and did not know the Reislings weren't all sweet. Julia has such a gift, the words she chose made so much sense to me. I have been to other wine tastings and presentations but somehow she was able to crack my thick skull with a few nuggets that I can remember! And the book is really beautiful.
I am definitely going to start educating some of my "wine snob" friends on Austrian wines!

    Thanks so much,

    Hello Julia,
It was great to meet you last Wednesday, your Austrian Wine presentation was fantastic.
The Austrian wine industry should be very proud of what you're doing over here.
In addition to all of the knowledge that you have on Austria and wine in general, what was especially nice was the small-food pairings. I don't find this at tastings very often and it not only presented the wine in it's best light, but also provided us with the best ways of enjoying the wines at home – on our own. Very well done.
    Let's stay in contact.
