The Coburg Wine Open is perhaps Austria’s most glamorous wine event of the year. A three day series of tastings is staged at the luxurious Palais Coburg, in the heart of Vienna’s first district. One can expect to meet the who’s who of the international wine world there – from international wine critics to the owners the world’s most prestigious wine estates.

This year’s Coburg Wine Open takes place from November 4th to the 6th. Featured tastings include the sensational Bordeaux vintage of 1959, iconic wines from the USA, and a Domaine de la Romanée-Conti tasting including vintages between 1932 and 1990.

Ticket prices are stiff, but are understood once one sees the list of wines and knows that Palais Coburg places discriminating priority on provenance and bottle condition. The most affordable tasting is a comparison of some of Austria’s very best white wines with great French classics from Alsace, the Loire Valley and Burgundy. The absolute highlight of this degustation will be a flight of all four Grand Cru of the villages Chassagne-Montrachet and Puligny-Montrachet from some of the most highly regarded producers. Here’s a list of the wines to be tasted at that session:
